Discipline is important when raising children, but punishment can ruin a child’s future, its part of tough love parenting. Making the distinction between loving correction and angry retribution is critical; a child must learn to trust you before they will truly change their behavior. Also, wait until you are calm before delivering discipline; never act in fury.

Be wary about introducing pacifiers to your breastfed baby. Pacifiers are designed to take care of a baby’s need to suck, however, the reason a baby needs to suck is that that is how they breastfeed. If they can satisfy their need to suck elsewhere it will hurt your breastfeeding relationship. Limit pacifiers for at least the first 6 weeks.

Exercise caution when diagnosing siblings who start to display symptoms of an illness shared by another brother or sister. Although families with multiple children often share germs, viruses, and illnesses, sharing medications or neglecting to take each child to the doctor increases the risk of health problems caused by unchecked or misdiagnosed ailments.

Lead by example. Don’t spank your kids for hitting, it makes absolutely no sense. Your kids look up to what you do more than anything else. Show them the kind of person you want them to be. The more you act out what you are saying, the more they will believe that you are doing the right thing.

Make sure to give your twins time with you that they don’t have to share. All too often twins are thought of as one complete unit. They are separate people and they need time to discover who they are on their own. Make time each week to take one twin to the park or the store with you.

If you are about to become a stepparent, make sure you realize that it can be a long time before your stepchild gets along with you. It’s common for children to be upset and resentful about their parents not being together. By not trying to rush things, the process is smoother. Over time, the child will get to know you and learn to accept the situation and make the key tips to unlocked star parent in  you.

Take advantage of your child’s school’s computer records to keep up with your child’s daily progress. Most school systems today have computerized tracking of grades and assignments. Get the access code to that system and use it on a daily basis to make sure nothing slips up on you when report cards come out. Learn more from parenting websites.
